The Kaupapa for Camp - Building the JustSpeak community to speak up together
On Friday night, we will all gather together for the powhiri to be welcomed onto Tapu Te Ranga Marae. We will spend Friday evening getting to know each other over dinner and through some facilitated group sessions. On Friday night you'll be introduced to the Ideas Board for Saturday, where the focus will be on conversational activism. This is the idea that one-on-one and group conversations are often the most powerful way to change attitudes. Being a group of young people, we don't want to have a boring conference with a set agenda - we want YOU to contribute to what we talk about!
The Ideas Board will have space to add topic ideas for the five different rooms that will be running on Saturday. Anyone and everyone can write up ideas about what they want to talk about on the Ideas Board - these topics will forms each session. Writing up an idea doesn't mean you have to do all the talking but those with particular interests or passions are welcoming to take a lead role if they would like to!

Freestyle Conversations (with some guidance...)
Saturday's conversation sessions are determined by you so....
What is the point of conversational activism? We believe that one of the most powerful ways of changing minds is through conversations. Through conversation, we can challenge ideas, understand different perspectives and build relationships.
- Contribute to the conversation based on what you know
- No one is an expert, all voices and contributions are valuable
- You don’t have to contribute anything if you don’t want to
- What is said in each session stays in each session
- Aim is to have conversations and learn from each other
- Two feet rule — go where you want, you can leave a session if you like or skip sessions if you’re having a great chat over morning tea, feel free to continue rather than going to the next session!
